6 Things To Consider When Choosing Your Permanent Lip Color

Permanent lip color is becoming a hot new trend. You may have already seen it circling around and it is something that you have been considering. If that’s the case, you’re definitely not alone. Many people are exploring getting the procedure done, and they’re all asking the same question.

What should I know beforehand?

We hear you, and we’ll be answering that question here by covering a few things that we think are very important when choosing permanent lip color. So stick with us as we go!

It’s an enhancement, not a complete change

One misconception that a lot of people have is that permanent lip color will completely change the look of your natural lips. That’s not the case. Essentially, the procedure enhances your existing lips, using advanced 3D makeup techniques that can produce a fuller, natural-looking, well-rounded lip. That means that your lips won’t be fuller, but to others, they’ll look it.

Consider your lifestyle and your skin tone

For the best results, you need to consider many parts of yourself. Two of those things are your lifestyle and your skin tone.

We want you to think about the makeup that you usually wear? Will the lip style that you choose be appropriate for your work life and day to day normal outings?

Those sorts of questions can be a great way to assess what you actually want when choosing permanent lip color. On that note, we suggest bringing along your favorite lipstick to your consultation, so that your technician can get an idea of what you normally like!

The second thing that you need to consider is your skin tone. If you want the result to look natural, you must pick a color that will work with your skin tone. If you don’t, it’ll be evident that something unnatural was done to your lips. Don’t worry too much about this though as your makeup artist will be there to advise and analyze your skin tone to help you decide.

You can pick more than just one color

As we said, making sure the color you pick matches your skin tone is very important. However, a lot of permanent makeup artists will be using blending techniques to give your lips that natural look.

Because of that method, they’ll often use two different shades, so you may be asked to pick multiple colors.

The shape of your lips

Depending on your situation, you could have perfectly full lips that just lack the color you want, or you may have less defined lips that you want to be enhanced. Just like with normal lipstick, the color of your lips plays a large role in how your lips will look once healed.

If you want to achieve a fuller-looking lip, some contour may be suggested to give that illusion. Or, if you want more color, your makeup artist can work with you to give them what you want.

Consult your makeup artist.

As you may have noticed, we’re mentioning your permanent makeup artist a lot. That’s for a good reason as they are the expert and can advise you on everything from what colors to select to what your aftercare regime should look like.

So be sure to take their opinion seriously! If you have a differing opinion about the color or shape that your lips should be, that’s alright. But consider the experience that’s behind their words and that they only want to help.

Be sure that you trust your makeup artist

On a similar note to our last, you need to make sure that you trust the artist that’s performing the procedure. That means taking their experience, reviews and everything else into consideration. The very last thing that you want is to experience a miscommunication that results in an outcome you didn’t want.

To avoid that, do your research. At Perfection Permanent, our makeup artists are required to complete a minimum 6 month, 1-on-1 intensive training regimen directly with our Founder Recy Wang. This training directly with our founder allows her to impart the skills that she has honed working in microblading and permanent makeup for over a decade in Korea, China, and the US. The last thing to consider is how you feel!

If you’re feeling confident that you want a certain lip color or shape, your artist agrees and everything else feels right, then go for it! At the end of the day, they’re your lips, and you deserve to be happy with how they look.
